Interpol’s seventh album The Other Side of Make-Believe finds the band exploring new emotional territory while staying true to their signature sound. Alongside the familiar dark undertones, the record introduces a sense of vulnerability, grace, and even hope, with Paul Banks’ more understated vocals and Daniel Kessler’s expansive guitar work pushing their music into fresh, more introspective territory.
Written largely in isolation during 2020 and completed in 2021 with producers Flood and Alan Moulder, the album reflects both the uncertainty of the times and a deliberate shift toward resilience and emotional clarity. While themes of distorted reality and modern disillusionment remain, Interpol counterbalances them with a focus on human strength and connection, resulting in a record that feels both reflective and quietly optimistic.
